I'm wondering if they're going to say this is being done because of the budget. If that's a case - maybe Bridget, Enos and Marinelli can be reminded that they had no problem losing a possible $50million when they voted against following the Federal laws of Title IX.

Received this from my inbox:

1. All Ziegler and Marinelli

2. They are strong arming this thru yo silence people

3. You are correct- the mileage passing means tbey have 4 years to keep up the destruction - I voted against it. The children are already being hurt so i am showing no support of the leadership

4. The strongest strategy is to gat as many people as possible every month to show up and take up their 3 minutes

5. The craving of power and control by the right shows no boundry

Installations seem to be the time to propose "surprise" motions, e.g., the firing of Asplen.

Just what are the rules re/voting on something before workshopping and/or advertising them?

Thanks for warning us about this. You, SOS and SEE are on top of things. THANKS!

This has Ziegler written all over it, doesn't it. She causes chaos, when the other board members vote along with these decisions that causes acrimony between the board and the public. She would love to see this pass. Thank YOU, Rhana. This is not the time to make such a big change. Other school boards should copy Sarasota's blueprint of two meetings in one month.

The two of them are beneath contempt! Robin and Bridget need to be gone. Will be there tomorrow and will definitely speak. What nerve!

Teachers work more than 40 hours a week. I hope the board doesn't have a problem with three-hour meetings, two times a month, where they can interact with the public - as well as allow the teachers and staff to attend or listen to what's happening in front of their computers.

Hire and elect the people that will look out for what is best for the school system and will work with the superintendent. With email, communications are pretty easy to accomplish or use your 90 seconds at a meeting…but can’t we let them do their job? If they don’t, don’t re-elect them. Most school boards I’ve been aware hold monthly meetings…with the opportunity to advertise and hold special

meetings when necessary. Good luck!

I hear you. To answer your question - "can't we let them do their job?": It appears that they want to cut back on their job duties. We WANT them to do their job, which has always meant two meetings. Now isn't the time for fewer meetings, which effectively silences their constituents. Their job is to keep listening. Not listen less. Most don't answer their e-mails, so the public isn't even sure they're being heard. There's nothing like a face-to-face. Just unfortunately, it appears one or two don't want it - and a whole board may concur just to get along. Thank you for your input. It was excellent.

Can’t they do what is needed in one monthly meeting? Many times meetings can get in the way of actual work time. It almost sounds like the public wants to run everything the school is doing…this is never a good policy. That’s why I revert back to my “can’t we just let them do their jobs?”

I am not familiar with any school history in Sarasota, but at some point there are “too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.” Not everyone can make the final decisions…that’s why you have board in the first place…and the Superintendent leads the district, working with the board. I’m a former teacher…so I’ll definitely follow this closely! :-)

The explanation lies in your comment: "I am not familiar with any school history in Sarasota." Our community has been an almost victim to far right extremists who wanted to bring Christian nationalism into our school system. You can Google Bridget Ziegler (or look at past Dear Bubbie blogs). Three of the present board members recently voted against following federal laws of Title IX in a speedy vote, that had the school board attorney advising against it. It is because of the background of the board members that it is imperative that they are held accountable as soon as nefarious actions occur. I heard you about emails. Our voices are louder. A newspaper can't report on an email. A particular board member has been working on keeping one of the meetings at 3pm, when the public and kids have informed them that they're unable to make the meetings. This will be used, undoubtedly, to show two meetings aren't necessary. It's really important that the public be aware of what's happening in Sarasota - and the only way corruption gets quashed is in the light. THIS is why Ziegler does not want two meetings in one month. As a teacher yourself, you worked five days a week - not to mention all the homework and class prep. If you can work 20 days in a month - over 40 hours a week - then a board can convene for two hours-plus twice a month. It's not a big ask. I believe ALL schools should now meet twice a month due to the Federal DOE being dismantled. All heads are going to have to come together to right this horrific wrong that will harm all students, but especially our vulnerable, disabled, minority and LGBTQ+ students. Thanks for letting me further express myself.
